Obama in Indiana on Wednesday

Sen. Evan Bayh will be introducing Barack Obama at an Elharkt, IN townhall meeting to discuss energy. Honestly, it should be the other way around, Obama introducing Bayh as his running mate! Don’t count on any sort of announcement, but don’t be surprised if it happens.

A brilliant campaign ad, nice work Paris!

This is exactly why McCain should pick Palin as his VP

As it appears increasingly likely that Barack Obama will pick someone like Evan Bayh or Joe Biden to be his VP, John McCain  has a golden opportunity to do something bold. On one hand, he could go with a safe choice such as Mitt Romney or the recently touted Virgnia Rep. Eric Cantor. Why do that? For a campaign that already seems to have trouble grabbing attention and headlines, in choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain has an opportunity to add substance and style to his ticket. Substance being Palin’s executive experience as a governor and style being McCain choosing a female as his running mate. A choice such as this would be sure to grab headlines and turn heads. A female on a GOP presidential ticket. Senator McCain, you have the chance to make a  a serious outside of the box, swing for the fences decision. Why not? When all of the polling you are looking at shows that former Clinton supporters, especially women, are still reluctant to embrace Barack Obama. McCain has an opportunity to beat Obama to the VP punch and pick Palin. She is a solid conservative with overwhelming support in her state who could legitimately offer you a chance to peel away Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama. I don’t know about you, but this isn’t exactly "attention grabbing". Pick Palin, you know you want to.

Evan Bayh, Obama’s VP?

Fueling speculation for an Obama/Bayh ticket, it has been reported that in the near future, Barack Obama will be spending nearly 21 hours in Indiana. This is as close to an announcement as we’ve probably come. I’m not saying that Bayh is getting the nod, but 21 hours seems to be a long time to spend in a single state. Obama currently has one Indiana event on the public schedule, he’ll be in Elkhart, IN on Wednesday, August 6.

Latest Gallup Daily (7/31/08)

According to the latest Gallup Daily Tracking poll, the race is now tied. It looks like McCain could be trending up and Obama trendng down. Very interesting. This race will be far from a landslide for either candidate.

McCain closes in on Obama

McCain has spent much of the last week retooling and sharpening his attacks and it looks like he’s onto something. Take a look at the latest Gallup Daily Tracking poll, he’s closing in on Obama, bringing the gap to just 4 points. It’s hard to get a read on trends over just a few days but this could be a sign that Obama is trending down very slightly while McCain is trending up. It’s a 46-42 Obama lead.

Hmmm…

From Time.com

"At times McCain can appear to be short on details. In some instances, he has made misstatements or eyebrow-raising comments during the long days of campaigning in front of cameras and microphones. Sympathetic listeners call them understandable slips of the tongue and question whether any candidate can know everything. Opponents call them gaffes, or worse. "Every candidate, Barack Obama included, has shown they will make a misstatement," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. "John McCain reads and internalizes enormous amounts of information about the most pressing regional, national and international issues every single day. He has an incredible skill in that regard.""

Tim Kaine, Really? A look at the Intrade bounce.

I like Tim Kaine, he’s a rising star in the Democratic party but when I heard this morning that he is apparently in "very serious" talks with Obama’s campaign about being his running mate, something inside was a little disappointed. Sure Time Kaine could help with Virginia, but I’m thinking Mark Warner might already have that under control. While Barack is looking for someone "outside" of the beltway, and Kaine fits this, he doesn’t offer much to back up Obama when it comes to foreign policy or experience. Do I really believe Kaine is the VP? Not really, right now I’m chalking this up to campaign disinformation.

As always, here’s an updated Intrade chart with what the Washington Post is touting as Obama’s top three likely picks. Bayh, Biden and Kaine. Kaine is where everyone is putting their money, I think it’s still all hype but we should keep an eye on it during the next few days.

Is Kaine Obama’s VP?

That’s strong possiblity, according to Politico’s Ben Smith.

"Kaine’s circle is "under the impression that he’s being looked at very, very seriously but he’s not the only one," said one of the two Democrats close to Kaine."

I’ll believe it when I see it. Strategically, I suppose it would make more sense to cede the governorship to a Republican than run the risk of running Bayh or Biden and possibly losing those Senate seats. Kaine can bring some executive experience to the table and could provide the best opportunity to turn Virginia Blue. I’ll be keeping an eye out on Kaine’s Intrade contract.
